Japan Day 19 - Hakone

 05/04/2023
Hakone

Haiz...  Out of 26 days, we hit the worst in Hakone due to continuous rain and strong wind for 2 days.

Weather was fine in Tokyo and temporary fine in Hakone.

Darren bought a new pair of shoes which couldn't fit into the luggage, so we put it in a locker inside Shinjuku station.

Went to the Odakyu Sightseeing Service Center to get physical Hakone Pass.  I bought a 2 day pass from Klook, and realized that I actually needed a 3 day pass.  I had to contact Klook to cancel and make sure I could refund.  Klook responsed within 10mins, we gotten our 3 day pass, total process about half an hour.

We topped up 1200yen for a Romance car (it's still a train), to save our hassle from changing trains.

Bought breakfast on the platform.

Going to enjoy breakfast on the train.

Weeeeeeee.... with illusional long legs.

Cleansers went in to clean the cabins first.

We explored the train a bit, pity that the food/drink was closed.

This box of sandwich was freaking neat, and surprisingly delicious.

Luis travelling in style.

Actually the train ride was only an hour plus, it's the walking to the correct platform that took up so much time every trip lolxx..., so here we were at Hakone.

Taxi stand with long queue but no taxi in sight.

Hakone station with scallop design.

Street food and souvenirs around the station but we just want a place for lunch.

The place was quite small with 2 rows of shops along the main road.

All restaurants were full with long queues, we decided to rest and eat ice-cream.

Sukumo River behind the road.

We were hungry but took a free shuttle bus (with Hakone Pass) to our hostel first.   However the bus service stopped at 5 or 5.30pm.  Meaning if we went out for dinner we would had to find another way back.
2 nights for 2 pax was S$137.

The receptionist spoke better English than me.
They were so nice to let us checked in earlier.

It's a mixed dormitory so that I could be with my sons.
Here's my pigeon hole with fluffy nice mattress but I had to make my own bed, my bones turned jelly, did it anyway else how to sleep, haiz...

I love the big commom area, it was cozy and spacious.
I either used my laptop here or the pantry.

After checking in, we walked towards a small waterfall feature nearby, hopefully able to find food along the way.

I supposed the river water came from the waterfall, maybe?

We did see a few restaurants but they were all closed.

Poor duck was trying to get back to the pond lolxx...

Reached Hien Waterfall after 15mins walk.

Tamadare Shrine, we didn't climb up, why all shrines need to climb one, hur hur...
My kids looked as if they were going fight waahaahaahaa....

They didn't of course.

Ring Waterfall

After the waterfalls we rolled downhill back to the main road and found one restaurant, FINALLY!
After us, it rejected a few foreign tourists, took in a couple of senior locals and closed door liao.

Our first proper meal of the day at 4pm, haiz...
After filling our stomach it was 5pm, we could go anywhere as all facilities closed around 7pm, so basically did nothing but walked around.

Walked pass this stall and I bought an abalone to eat.
Not nice, chewy like rubber.

Bought some short bread.

Went back to our hostel early, nua and onsen, slept early hoping to go "full swing" the next day.

The next day, it rained the whole day, ropeway, cruise all CLOSED T___T
It was the most pathetic day
