National Day Buffet at STREET 50 Restaurant & Bar

*sponsored

No celebration is complete without food, good food.

Singapore's 49th Birthday is around the corner;

STREET 50 Restaurant & Bar at Bay Hotel will be launching an exclusive National Day Buffet!

It was a great pleasure to be invited for this food tasting, feasting in advance.
OOTD - wore this wool dress with pressed threads bought during last year's Beijing trip.
"Cold storage" since after the trip.  Matching it with court shoes from Pazzion.

Stepped into STREET 50 Restaurant, was greeted by cozy contemporary interior.
A long stretch of buffet counter is sat right at the centre of the restaurant.  No matter which table you are at, the spread is only an arm's length away, you don't have to walk a mile to get your food.  Heehee..... I am exaggerating a bit here, but you know what I mean right?

Are you ready for mouth-watering food pics of National Day Buffet?
Here you go!
.
.
.
.
Steamed Hainanese Chicken
A Singapore delicacy which most of us ate since childhood.  Tender chicken meat with slippery succulent skin, was perfect with fragrance rice.

Chef Ricky of STREET 50 had gave chicken rice an amazing make-over.
Breaded Rice Balls
Yes, these cute golden ping pong balls you are looking at is chicken rice!  The rice is kneaded into bite-sized balls, and coated with a layer of Japanese breadcrumbs before entering the fryer.

The golden crust gave out a fragrance invaded our nose before we could bite into them, cutting these cuties up, within were rice in perfect grainy texture.
Buay pai seh, I actually "ta bao" some home and they were still crazy delicious the next day =P~~  The chef's creativity and culinary skill is really remarkable.

Tiger Prawns with Warm Ginger Sauce
Marinated with ginger, tiger prawns were steamed to perfection.  Prawns were so fresh that minimum seasonings were enough to enhance it's natural sweetness, *wipes saliva*.

Chilli Crab Pasta
This set my heart and tongue ablaze!  Pasta with rich, thick, ultimate spicy chilli egg sauce with de-shelled crab meat, it was really hard to stop at one serving.

Paper-wrapped Chicken Risotto
Our familiar paper wrapped chicken is a typical chinese tim sum.

However, a Italian twist was injected into these little packages of chicken mid-wings.
Mid-wings were marinated for 6 hours, bones removed and arborio rice were stuffed in.  Every delicate package is a harmonious marriage of Chinese - Italian flavours, so unique and tasty!

Yam Paste with Ginkgo Nuts
Classic teo chew dessert, yam was blended into a smooth paste, drizzled with mildly salted coconut milk, lastly topped with nutritious ginkgo nuts.  It reminded me of my childhood when my mum asked me to crack ginkgo nuts.  It was really tedious, my fingers got pricked so much by the sharp shells, one small bowl was enough to drive me nuts lolxx....

Durian Pengat
Durian mousse made from fresh durian wrapped in egg crepes, fellow durians will love this dessert!

Apart from the above highlights, this buffet spread also offers other fabulous varieties such as -

Seafood Selection with Snow Crabs, Oysters, Scallops and Mussels;
Chinese Cold-cuts with Char-Siew Chicken, Jellyfish, Octopus, Century Egg and Spring-Roll;
Local Delights such as Satay, Otah, Braised Sea-cucumber with Baby Abalone, Fried Scallop Cake with Yam, Bak Kut Teh, Teochew Braised Duck, Rojok;
and Ice-cream with bread, cone or waffle!

Complimentary Singapore Sling Cocktail for adults
and Complimentary Merlion Swing Mocktails for children!
Holding with me Carrot Sensation cocktail
Celebration is for everybody!

Good deal right?  Sleek and shiny, comes with a detachable chain handle, so you may chose which ever way you like to hold it.  I know most ladies like it black, easier to match.

Personally, I prefer something with a softer appeal like this pastel color
Tetti Wallet S$69.00.

Labarbara Sandals S$99.00 S$49.50

This caught my attention, cos' it's causal but not sloppish and can show off my pedicure, heehee.....

Rochor Thai

*sponsored

I am back from Bangkok and I had left part of me there....  But I know there's a place in Singapore that probably can comfort our cravings - Rochor Thai.

Interior of this little restaurant is kept simple with vintage wooden furnitures.  The walls are decorated with pictures from Thailand with nostalgia feel all over.
They have a little corner selling thai condiments if you like to whip up thai dishes at home too!

Thai Ice Milk Tea S$3.50
The first item served were these chills which we really need in our crazy warm weather.  The orange color of the thai tea was so bright that it looked almost like carrot juice.

The bitterness of the tea was diffused with natural sweetness of milk.  MUST TRY!
It's really unique and according to founder of Rochor Thai, Mr Joel Ong, they had bought this special tea leaf from Thailand and it's brand is a trade secret sssssssssssssssshhh..........

Scrolling down, I will be introducing to you guys authentic thai dishes which you may find from the central province in Thailand, especially in cafes or restaurants in Krung Thep.

Som Tum Kai Kem - Papaya Salad with salted duck egg S$8.80.
It's always mango salad whenever we eat thai food, so this was a refreshing change!  Shredded papaya, carrot, some long beans, crunchy peanuts and dried shrimps were tossed with saliva inducing tamarind sauce.  Personally, I love everything and anything with salted egg =P~~  HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Po Taek Talay - Clear Tom Yum Seafood Soup S$8.80(S)/S$15.80(L)
Besides the usual taste of spicy and sour, there's a warm sensation at each sip as holy basil was added.

Kor Moo Yang - Grilled Pork Collar S$12.80
MUST MUST MUST ORDER!   It's one of the best pork dish I had ever eaten so far!  Pork was pan-seared to seal the juices in meat before grilling.  Flavourful meat was incredibly tender, soooo delicious that I ate it without the sauce.  Now I am drooling over my own blog post....

Gaeng Som Pla - Orange Curry Poached Red Snapper S$26.80
(Order 1 day in advance)
Usually deep fried snake head fish is use for this dish, but we had poached red snapper instead due to availability of the fish.  Fresh red snapper is lightly poached in orange curry, served with acacia omelette and assorted veg.  The combination was something new to us and it tasted as good as it looked, LOVE IT!

It's our first time trying this delightful dish and I believe for many of you, it's the first time seeing this dish too!  Not surprising, as this is not a street food.  Gaeng Som Pla is normally served in bigger restaurants in Thailand.  MUST TRY!

Pad Pong Curry Prawns S$18.80(S)/S$26.80(L)
Thai pad pong curry sauteed with eggs and absolutely fresh big prawns.  It's as iconic to Thailand as chilli crab is to Singapore.

Pla Meuk Pad Kai Kem - Salted Egg Squid S$14.80/S$22.80(L)
Instead of cutting the squid in rings (which was faster), chef of Rochor Thai display precise knife skills with flower cut squid coasted with salted egg sauce.  It was a visual feast to us.

Pak Boong Fai Daeng - Wok Fried Morning Glory S$7.80(S)/S$11.80(L)
Classic thai favourite with fermented bean paste and chillies.  As simple and as common this dish may seemed, it takes experience and skills to ensure the veg is not over or under cook (I always over cooked mine and they turn dull green, almost yellow >.<).  The leafs were soften while the stalks were still crunchy, making this plate of green very appealing and appetising, really tasty.  MUST ORDER!

Khao Niew Ma Muang - Mango Sticky Rice S$7.80
There's always stomach space for thai desserts.  Coconut milk was pre-mixed into the sticky rice, moulded in heart-shape to melt your heart.  Not forgetting fresh yellow thai mango which never falls out of love.

Tab Tim Grob - Red Rubies S$4.80
Another familiar thai dessert, water chestnut cubes coated with thin tapioca starch, served with coconut milk.

The water chestnut were cut in bigger cubes so that there's a crunch and kick in every bite.  The twist was that the salt was added into the coconut milk, so Red Ruby here is very different from what you had at other places.

NO MSG is used in Rochor Thai's kitchen as the culinary team of Rochor Thai took pride in their cooking. Even all sauces and pastes are prepared from the scratch with fresh ingredients.
Pic with Rochor Thai's founder Mr Joel Ong.  I could feel his passion for thai food as he spoke to us about the dishes ^.^

Another group pic with Elrica (on the left).
We had enjoyed the sumptuous thai dishes very much and gotten valuable knowledge from Mr Joel Ong as well.

Giving you another good reason to visit Rochor Thai....  They are having LADIES NITE on every Wednesday!!

Charee Lashes

*sponsored

I started to put on full make-up when I was 16, however putting on fake lashes was only 4 or 5 years back.

Initially it took about 15 mins to get 1 pair of lashes fixed on nicely.  It's always one eye perfect and the other one takes up a lot of time.  After a few practice, it's just a breeze of less than 2 mins.  Keep practising, trust me, it's worth it.

I always feel that it's very important for a lady to possess some make-up skills, you will enjoy selfies a lot more, heehee....

Back to the topic....., I love lashes, they give me big eyes without plastic surgery.   People who knows me will know that I am born with pea sized eyes.

I can't live without lashes, now Charee lashes are my new love.

Gorgeous Charee lashes!
There are 10 models to chose from, all retailing at a reasonable price of S$7.99 each pair including lash glue.

Charee lashes are very versatile.  Let me start off with natural look....

Charee Lash no.1045  S$7.99
Color: Black   Texture: Synthetic   Length: Medium   Thickness: Thin
Design:  Criss cross, lash length gradually gets longer from the inner to the outer eye

Without Charee lashes.
With Charee lash no.1045.

Big difference right?

This is how Charee lash no. 1045 looks like when I look down.

It's very natural looking with light make-up.  Great for office ladies or for weekends in causal outfits.
It's so light that I forgotten I am wearing lashes after a while.

Charee Lash no.7962  S$7.99
Color: Black   Texture: Human hair   Length: Short   Thickness: Thin
Design:  Lash bone is thin and the lashes are sparse for a natural look.

Wearing Charee lash no.7962.

Charee lash no.7962 is sparse in design which allows my natural lash to "blend" in.

I am wearing Charee lash no.7962, it's as comfortable as my Arale T-shirt.

Charee Lash no.4518 S$7.99
Color: Black   Texture: Human Hair   Length: Long   Thickness: Thick
Design:  Thin lash bone, longer and more lash strands the no.7962

If Charee Lash no.7962 is a day lash, Charee Lash no.4518 is a evening version of it.

An epic pic of one eye with lash, the other one without.
My nose looks enormous here >.<

Charee Lash no.7962 gives a feminine yet innocent look.

Charee Lash no.1313 S$7.99
Color: Black & Brown   Texture: Synthetic   Length: Long   Thickness: Thick
Design:  Criss cross design; lashes at the 2 ends are shorter with the longest length at the centre.

Wearing Charee Lash no.1313 in brown.
These lashes are so voluminous that I don't even need much eye shadow to enhance further.  The lashes are fanning my cheeks beautifully each time I blink.  电死你 有木有!

Men don't really notice if you change your hair color (blacks and browns looks the same to them unless you do something shocking enough) or put on different color lipstick (men are color blind).  But if you put on fake lashes.... YES!  Men and everybody will notice right away!

I am saying these cos' my hubby once looked at me and said: "It's amazing how those few strands of little hair can make such a big difference."

Left pic botak eyes without lashes against right pic eyes with Charee lashes.
Enuff said.
Charee lashes gives eyes those definition and sparks with a instant charm every woman desire.
