Lao Jiang Superior Soup (大马老江)

Date of visit: 16.08.2014

Established food chains in shopping malls are "safe" but boring.  Exploring eateries and restaurants along small lanes is somehow thrilling to me.  Most of the time we don't know what to expect.  Long queues doesn't promise good food at the end, bo lang (无人) doesn't necessary means lousy food.

Lao Jiang Superior Soup turned out to be a worth visit.

Hunger banging fiercely after our Bukit Timah Nature Reserve trek.  Hubby told me nearby Cheong Chin Nam Road has a stretch of eateries.  We decided to drive down and see which is more pocket friendly and attractive.

The big sign board featuring various soup dishes caught my attention.

Close-up pic of another sign board.

Coffee shop style outdoor seats....

and aircon area behind the glass panels which is smaller in capacity.

Superior Ipoh Soup with rice/noodles S$8.80.
I know this doesn't look impressive.  But the broth is SUPERB TASTY!  We finished every drop of the soup, almost wanted to ask for a refill but too paiseh lolxx...  There were fish ball, pork balls, fish maw, red groupa slices, prawns, some yong tau foo, butter lettuce and minced pork hidden beneath.  A little of  everything combined to a very satisfying bowl of soup!

They have a few choices like rice, hor fun and noodles.  I chose mee pok dry to go with the soup.
Mee pok in perfect QQ texture powered up with chilli, chopsticks not able to stop....

Braised pork trotters with rice S$6.80.

Thoroughly braised, meat was very tender but too much vinegar was added for our likings.

Cheng Teng and Lemon Grass Jelly S$2.50 each.

Reasonably priced with GST 7%, no service charge.  The soup is highly recommended, food lovers pay them a visit at ~

Seoul Yummy at Bugis+

Date of visit: 07.08.2014

Gotten complimentary Ninja Turtle movie tickets at Bugis+ that day.

Managed to persuade King Luis to have Seoul Yummy with me for dinner.

Each time I pass by, I would look at this poster and drool >.<

So here we finally went in this time!

The beauty of having early dinner at 5pm, no need to fight with crowd.

Ordered S$49.90 Army Stew Combo (for 2 pax), and these were what's included-
.
.
.
Assorted kimchi, spicy tofu, vinegar turnip ,whipped potato and spicy fried silver fish, all in small bite portions but was more than enough.

1 multi-grains rice instead of 2 cos King Luis preferred white rice.

Chose Fried Kimchi dumplings as our appetiser.
They were as crispy as they looked, inside were tasty minced pork marinated with kimchi.

Now, the enormous Army Stew!
Read up a little, this dish is originated during the Korean War.  Lack of food, people put whatever was left and hot dogs from U.S Army facilities in  large pot to boil.  Unintentionally, this dish became popular till today.

They have seafood or meat Army Stew to chose from, we opted for meat.
There's one whole list of ingredients in it, I can't be 100% sure I got them all down -
* chicken slices, pork belly, lean pork, beef
* sausages, luncheon meat, tofu
* rice cakes, instant noodles
* bake beans, straw mushrooms, enoki mushrooms
* spring onions, pak choy, cabbage

Soup base was subtly sweet although the orange color looked fiery.  Totally enjoyed the generous and tender meat slices.

The Army Stew Combo came with free-flow roasted barley tea which I didn't take pics of.

Very full, but we managed to make space for these ice-creams.

Although it's stated that the combo is for 2pax, I suppose it's filling enough for 3 ladies too.  Simply upgrade the multi-grains rice to bibimbab, ramen etc.  Quite a nice place to dine with friends I would say.

Collaboration with Escentials at Paragon

Date: 10.09.2014

I do have not a stationery office, my work place of the day was at Escentials in Paragon.

It's boring, but almost all companies I worked with required full black attire.

Spacious and big, Escentials carries Europe beauty brands.

Got to work with Covet London nail lacquers.

A mini manicure bar was set up for invited media to have express manicure with Covet London nail lacquers.

Some of the colors we had tried on.

Each job opportunity gained me more experience and more exposure to different brands of lacquers.  The list of corporate events I worked with are HERE.

If your brand needs professional manicurist, please contact Precious Nail Services at ~

Soi 19 Thai Wanton Mee - in Singapore

Date of visit: 28.07.2014

I was google-ing for Soi 19 Thai Wanton Mee at Pratunam Market (Bangkok).  Founded, but at the same time, discovered that there's also a Soi 19 Thai Wanton Mee in Singapore.

Not taking much attention to the local Soi 19 cos' I was about fly off to Bangkok.

SabX2 Pratunam Wanton Noodles
4/32-33 Soi Petchburi 19, Pratunam Bangkok Thailand
Tel: 66 2 653 9618
Opening Hours: 9am - 4pm daily
It's so famous that I believe it's already a MUST-EAT if one goes to Bangkok.

It's a simple and humble street food, "sauce-less" springy QQ noodles has a charm.  The taste wasn't wow but very unforgettable.
Pratunam Soi 19
It's like sometimes we just want plain porridge and braised peanuts (or AAA小菜心)  for a meal.  It's nothing fantastic but we absolutely love such comfort food.   You may read the rest of my Bangkok story HERE.

思思念念 thai wanton mee, but we are a distance apart....
and that was when I remembered there's a Soi 19 Thai Wanton Mee in Singapore.

Visiting this local version of Soi 19 was really difficult.

They open occasionally on Wednesdays, quite often on Thursdays, normally on Fridays to Sundays.  Most of the time, they are close from Mondays to Wednesdays.  In another words, they are close when I am free, open when I am working round the clock -___-

To make it even more difficult, their opening hours is from 8.00am to around 3.00pm only.
Rage face with saliva dripping, oh man...

Open certain days in a week, they update their operation days and time on their Facebook
www.facebook.com/pages/Soi-19-Thai-Wanton-Mee
I strongly advise you guys to check their Facebook before dropping by, else you may risk a wasted trip.

This day, we managed to rush down at around 1.30pm.  Saw the snake queue, we knew we found it.
Soi 19 is inside a coffee shop within Ang Mo Kio neighbourhood.

The queue was more than half an hour before we gotten these on our table.
To "revenge" (吃报仇), we ordered 2 big bowls of wanton mee for each of us and a wanton soup to share.
Eat until burst lolxx...

Wanton Soup S$4.00
Soup was flavourful with fried garlic sprinkled on top, generous loads of chay sim and wantons sligtly bigger than the normal.

Thai wanton noodles (big) S$4
Huge roaster bowl (公鸡碗) of thai wanton mee overdosed with fried pork lard added in by hubby.  Every single day, he will tell me I am fat, but every single day, he will feed and feed me, I know I married the right guy lolxx...  Besides fried wanton and char siew that you can see from the pic, there's also 2 chunky pieces of chinese sausage.  Same as the authentic one in Bangkok, no sauce beneath, we add in chilli flakes and fish sauce.

Springy QQ egg noodles bounced as I bite in and that send me back to Bangkok.

Both Soi 19 are not related but we can't help to compare them.

I would say, ours is an up-sized version of Bangkok's.  Bangkok's version is slightly drier and oiler.  Both noodles are equally good but I prefer the big wantons here ^.^

Missing Pratunam's wanton mee?  The closest taste we can get here is at ~

Catalunya - Northeastern Spanish cusine

Date of visit: 05.08.2014

My sisters and I did a fun thing by wearing Indian costume to a Spanish fine dining restaurant, epic lolxx..
OOTD:  Punjabi suit (sis bought from Sri Lanka)
Straw tote bag (Bangkok)
Red wedges (Payless Shoe Source)

I complete the look with stick on Indian decals, heehee...

Catalunya is in this silver dome - The Fullerton Pavilion.

Image from www.facebook.com/CatalunyaSingapore
We made a grand entrance, beautifully, heehee...

The dome is glass-cased from ceiling, show casing a nice city view of our Marina Bay.

The exquisite interior gave me a high expectation (on food).

We had a table near the glass panel.

Outdoor seatings by the river, which became crowded after 8pm.

"到此一游" photo taken by the manager.
He saw me selfie half day also cannot capture a view, came over and offer to help.  So nice right?  My sis was seated inside in zombie mode lolxx...

I shook her up to take selfies with me, make-up already, if don't take pics "wasted" heehee...
Not sure if my sis mind to appear in my blog, so put sunglasses on her >.<

The view is stunning, suddenly, I fell in love with Singapore.
Holding a unknown red wine, S$22 per serving. That glass bottle on the table is Aqua Panna spring water, S$11.00.  It taste like water, just water.

Let dinner begin....
.
.
.
Jamon Iberico Croquettes (4pcs) S$15.00
Breaded and deep fried to crisp, within was creamy, milky and cheesy with spanish ham.  The goodness flooded my entire mouth, it's difficult to stop at one.

Bikini S$20.00
Sounded sexy, presentation was neat.  It's ham, cheese and truffle (I call it the ang mo seaweed, lolxx) sandwich.

Oysters S$36.00
Seasonal, not in menu.  Too much salt was sprinkled, sad.

Octopus A Feira S$24.00
Some roasted pork belly, together with octopus chunks in smooth spicy galician tapa (boiled potatoes).  It's so difficult to get to eat octopus in Singapore (I fell in love with octopus when I first ate them in Greece).   I wished there were more octopus instead of pork in it.

Lobster Rice S$80.00
Each grain of rice was fully soaked with rich flavour of lobster, never know that rice could be so incredibly delicious.  It comes with a price tag though.  To find a minor flaw, if the rice could be a little softer, it will be perfect.  Still, it's a MUST ORDER!

Now, Catalunya's the signature dish -
.
.
Segovian Style Suckling Pig S$135.00
I had seen reviews on this before hand, so I was mentally prepared to see this half piglet.  But my second sis wasn't taking this too well >.<   Although the piglet was small, the menu suggested it for 2-3pax but I find that it's enough even for 4-5pax.  The meat was so tender that it could be cut up with a ceramic plate effortlessly.

I was so busy looking, only remembered to take a video at the later part where the cutting plate was thrown on the floor.  Was told that it was a spanish tradition, which symbolise throwing away bad luck or something.

Star Anise Grilled Pineapples S$12.00
This was served together with the suckling pig, the pineapple went very well with the meat.  It's over priced though.

Full to the brim, but die die need to have dessert, so we ordered one to share.

Torrija S$14.00
Bread slightly charred with caramelized skin.  Could tell it's soaked with egg and milk.  It became a nice dessert with ice-cream.  Love it to the max, can I have this in bigger portion as a main dish instead?  Yum yum...

Dining with this beautiful backdrop of Singapore's night lights was more than awesome...

All dishes were pleasing to my picky taste buds although I may not be able to compare them with other spanish restaurants since this was my first time trying spanish food.

Have to apologise that the above photos weren't too well taken due to the romantic dark lightings.

There were mix reviews regards to the service, but our experience was great and we were treated like queens.  My second sis who arrived later was usher to our table even before she asked.  Perhaps they notice we were wearing similar outfits, that's meticulous.  Towards the end of the meal, the manager (who helped me with a photo earlier on) came to our table for short chat.  He is a cute looking caucasian, witty and charming, heehee....

After dinner we walked up the viewing deck of The Fullerton Pavilion.
My little sisters' back view.
The 3 of us are very different in many aspects, but we bonded closely together with love.  It's my blessing to have them as my sisters.
