Day 4 Chiang Mai Thailand

 01/10/2023

Took Grab from hotel to Black Gooseberry Cafe.
Interesting small place at Nimman area.

It's around 10am, waited about 15mins to get into this small place.  It's non-aircon, thankful for the cool weather though.

Thais are born artistic, so cute the board.
They open very early, don't do dinner and note they close on Tuesdays.

Fried egg with sausage and fish cake 55baht.
Soft boil egg 11baht.  Super yummy with fish sauce.

Thai tea 30baht, Bandung milk 35baht.
Darren liked the porridge with chicken and thai fish cake, more like rice soaked in soup.

Everybody, every single one, no exception all came here for their colorful butter smooth custard bread dip.
Looked so pretty and you would be happy to know that it's delicious too!

Happy tummys, Grab drove 30mins to PongYang Adventure Park.
This pic looked so fake but it's real, taken while we were in the cab.  Absolutely beautiful, totally different from Bangkok.

There were quite a few activities but we only tried 2, which were enough.

Jungle Coaster, bought tix from KLOOK S$15/2 pax, exchange token from their ticketing office (they were in a mess, so patience needed).

This was how their tokens looked like.  Slot it and the gantry opened, very old school.

Each car could take 2 pax, we preferred to be on our own.

The coaster run through the forest, nice view and we could control the speed.  There were crews at various points to watch over, so I guessed basic safety precautions were good.
I managed to take a video, but Blogger wouldn't load.  Anyway it was very fun even for the weak hearts.

Despite of the unfavourable weather forecast, it didn't rain, so we continued with Zipline.

This was the Zipline, the height was omg.

Happy at the bridge, after that saw an idiot run/jumped across the bridge, if he broke the bridge, congrats liao.

Later on we were up here, we were advised not to carry our phone with us, so we didn't have any pic throughout.

Zipline 14 station S$71/2pax bought in advance on KLOOK.
Pic before we started.  The whole game of climbing from tree to tree with wobbling knees and sliding with screams took about an hour.  I was pretty dead at the end, but glad that I did it with my son, we shared this special memory.

The same driver actually waited for us, next destination - King Kong Park (Huai Tueng Thao Sculpture Park)
Drove pass a horse stable.

Was about 20mins drive.  Entrance tix.

2 giant King Kong made of hay could be seen, there were other smaller animal sculptures as well but the King Kongs were everybody's favourite.
It was a bit cloudy else would be perfect if the sky was blue.  Anyway already very "heng" it didn't rain.
Thais are really really very artistic and creative.  I think I mentioned this X100 times.  Probably the reason why we find Thailand so enjoyable, everywhere was filled with art and passion.
Elephant and ox here, but was too muddy to walk over.

"I was here" photo.

Cloudy but still had a bit of blue sky and a vast of green padi field.  As a Singaporean, we could only see this kind of rural scenery in overseas.

Okay, whatever deer this was...

Opposite King Kong Park was Huay Tueng Thao Reservoir.
There was a local restaurant, they had low tables in little huts around the reservoir.
It's really a nice place to chill. Again you need to look at the map and plan your route, cos this was located outside the old town.
We spend about an hour leisurely then had the same driver to drive us back to the old town.

Stopping at a traffic light, all food deliveries were in line in front of us lolxx...

We went to One Nimman.
Somehow didn't shop as much as I should.

I knew this restaurant online, it was on my KIV list, since we chanced upon it, decided to give it a try as early dinner.

Atas ambience.

Pinned my hopes too high.  The first thing they served was the desert.  I was stunned.
It's coconut flesh + sweet potato in coconut milk, quite nice actually.

Fried was delicious with perfect grains.

Brinjal came in dead green color, they didn't manage to preserve the purple color.  Taste was ok.

Although the beef looked perfect from the photo, we had to reject it cos it was too rubbery to chew.
The kitchen exchanged a pork chop for us.
The bill, not too ex for Singaporean.

Already, full, we saw this chinese restaurant next door lolxx... That moment I wished I could be a cow with 4 stomachs.
Good thing that they do sell 2pcs, so we gotten to try.
Not bad, flavourful and juicy but skin a little too thick.

Food choices were endlessly.

We took a short Grab ride to Sunday Night Market or they also called it Chiang Mai Walking Street.

To begin bought bitter tea (凉茶).
20baht only.
Passed many temples.

We soon saw Saturday Market's vendors here.
This night market was bigger, so maybe skipping the Saturday Night Market and save the time for something else could be a better option.

Walked pass Three Kings Monument Square, build in 1984 as a tribute to the three founders of Chiang Mai. The statue itself is made of bronze and is located in front of Chiang Mai Cultural Center.

We went for foot massage, heehee...

S$13 for 1hour, not the best deal but good enough.

The chinese guy besides me snored until...  He must be so exhausted lolxx...

Darren bought a small packet of fried bee hoon for 15baht, actually turned out not bad and it's warm.

Bought these, a bit hard, chew until my jaws tired.
Behind the stall, frying balls.

The singlet that my old man worn for 10 over years still could be found.
Every corner there's a temple.
We covered 3/4 of the night market and called it a day.

The next day went out of old town to an elephant safari.  Thanks for reading, will do the next post soon.
