King's Laksa Steamboat is open for CNY!

sponsored
Date of visit: 10.01.2018

It's a eternal regret having summer all year round to me.  It's a bit cooler these few days, though not enough for never melt ice-cream indulge, but we have steamboat ✌✌

King's Laksa Steamboat is now run by a lovely couple Emily and Harry.

The price of this neighborhood restaurant is very reasonable, one can just swing over to satisfy steamboat cravings.

Message from the owners:
KEEP CALM AND EAT WHATEVER YOU WANT, waahaahaaaa......

So we did!  Each table comes with this laminated menu for us to chose the soup base, finger food and fresh items where the kitchen will prepare upon order (unlimited of course).
Laksa is their signature soup base which is made from the scratch in their own kitchen.  So it's a MUST ORDER!  We had herbal soup base to pair with, recommended by Emily.

The "help yourself corner" is right at the end of the little restaurant.

Balls of different kinds to chose from, plenty of vegetables too..... and they have froze tofu (冻豆腐)!

Do you know that froze tofu (冻豆腐)  is one of the best food to go with steamboat?
The holes/pockets in froze tofu are able to absorb soup base like a sponge.  So when you put it in your mouth, it sprays............ imagine how shiok.

Eggs, fried bean curd skin, noodles and that rice cooker with homely feel...

Not forget the sauce and condiments bar.

Free flow drinks.

Sweet note on the wall.

King's Laksa Steamboat feast for my king, and that makes me a queen for the day!

Prawn paste chicken is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, juicy and flavorful, pipping hot straight from the kitchen.

Deep fried silken tofu with sweet sour is another crowd pleaser too!

We ordered cockles and went through the hassle of shelling for that....

Custome made SUPREME LAKSA!
The experience is very different from having a unsusal bowl of laksa outside.  As in the laksa gravy is bubbling hot and gets more and more flavorful as it boils.  You can have the whole world of "hum", tau pok, eggs, fish cakes, also upgrading your laksa noodle with prawns.

Adjusting the electric stove is a bit tacky.  Though easily overcome by poking with a chopstick, I hope to see improvement, which may involve replacement of new tables and stoves to fit the hot pot, hefty renovation that will be....

Making use of every space, cashier and ice cream are together.

麻雀虽小五脏俱全 (small but all inclusive)  Ice cream flavors such as mint, strawberry cherry, sweet corn, chocolate with chips, cookies & cream, vanilla chips, yam etc., spoiling customers with choice.

We ate whatever we could lolxx...

GOOD NEWS!

海底捞 Hai Di Lao Hot Pot at 313 Orchard

Date of visit: 09.09.2014

I had posted about  海底捞 Hai Di Lao Hot Pot at Clarke Quay last year.  The blog post hits over 42K views (peanuts to those famous bloggers, big deal to me, heehee...) and it's still running on till today!   Curious?  Click HERE.

I have been eating around, but so far I didn't find another better steamboat place (of similar pricing) other than Hai Di Lao.

Their unique soup bases had casted a spell on our taste buds, fresh and good quality of meat/ingredients had turned us into spoiled brats with.  You can't blame me for being so picky on food >.<   Not forgetting the 6 star standard service which was very difficult for other competitors to mimic.

Initially was thrilled when we know that Hai Di Lao was opening another branch at 313 Orchard.  But on second thoughts, we were not very sure if they could maintain that extreme high standard.  That's for us to find out ourselves....

First visit to 海底捞 Hai Di Lao at 313 Orchard on a weekday noon...

海底捞 Hai Di Lao Hot Pot at 313 Orchard
That's the reception counter, and the lady behind it was doing ironing.  You hear me right.  She was ironing what looked like to me children's curtains for their children's indoor playground.  She greeted us politely and told us to sit on those red stools for a short wait.  She continued to concentrate on her ironing.

My children happily went to grab the pop corns, but were disappointed with a down graded type.  There were glasses but no drinks available at the waiting area.  I requested for plain water from one of the serving staff, it never came.  So I already know, that royalty service at Clarke Quay did not make it at their new branch >.<

Similarly, 313 Orchard also have a playroom for children and a manicure room providing free manicure for female customers.

Posh interior with most of the tables being occupied.

Some tanks in low stock.

We ordered what we knew was good -

Free flow beverage S$3/pax
They have a few to chose from, we had soya milk which comes with a jar of syrup for us to add at our own preference.

Tomato and Sichuan Spicy duo soup base S$16

Self-service bar counter S$2/pax.
Mix your own dip sauce with various seasonings/condiments.  There are assorted fruits, bean curd pudding, pumpkin porridge and other desserts which may change from time to time.  Did not take any pic, but the concept is the same as it's branch at Clarke Quay.

Mutton S$16.00

Assorted meat paste S$22.00

Select Beef S$26.00

Chilled Tofu S$6.00

Assorted Veg Combi 开心农场 S$9.00 (half portion)

Beef Balls (that pees) 撒尿牛丸 S$14.00

Black Pork S$12.00

U.S. Beef Slices S$18.00

Seafood Combi S$14.00 (half portion)

Birthday Fruit Platter
Complimentary from the restaurant, it was hubby's birthday.

We also ordered 2 servings of kungfu noodles at S$3.00 each.  Total bill with GST and service charge was S$210.70 for the 4 of us.

Food quality maintained freaking yummy.  Just that there's a drastic drop in service compared to their pioneer outlet at Clarke Quay.  No server came to refill drinks for us nor peel the prawns for me;  totally missed all the pampering we had at Clarke Quay T___T  From what I observe they are slightly short handed which maybe one of the reason. Expanding food business is rather challenging in Singapore I would say.

Even at it's worst, a few weeks of advance booking has to be made to get a table for weekend dinners.

Tsukada Nojo Bijin Nabe (塚田農場 美人鍋) at Plaza Singapura

Date of visit: 09.02.2014

Visited Tsukada Nojo  Bijin Nabe (塚田農場 美人鍋) at Plaza Singapura.  What caught my attention was it's name.  美人鍋, meaning eat already become 美人 (beauty) wor, heehee......

"SUPER RICH IN COLLAGEN" the board says!
And everything at S$25 per person was affordable!

They open for dinner at 5pm.  From what I know they don't take advance bookings through phone, so there's normally a queue outside at around 4.30pm, as told my a friend.

The restaurant is really small, I estimate they can only accommodate around 40pax at a time.  Perhaps this is the best arrangement they can make out of the space constrain.
Missed the 5pm slot, so hubby and I booked a 6.30pm slot at the counter.

Went to walk around but window shopping bored the hell out of me, so we went back to the restaurant at around 6pm.
Saw how they scope puddings of collagen rich chicken stock into serving pots.  That kept me quite occupied and "entertained".  Also saw an ugly sight, a grouchy young girl around 20 years old ba, complained endlessly to an elder woman who seemed to be her mother.  "Make us wait so long, service so lousy, told us to come back at 6pm now already pass 10mins....."

Rotten spoiled kid, then what you want the waitress to do?  Chase their customers off and let you sit in is it? Or maybe they should get you a VIP table placed right at the entrance?  At around 6.15pm, 2 customers came out, the mother and daughter were let in immediately.   That girl's face was black throughout, pity the waitress who need to tolerate her....  Anyway, shortly after they went in, it was our turn =D

Collagen chicken pudding!

It melted into thick milky soup in a minute or so.

Our tiny table with everything cramped together.

That's the our S$25 X2 set.

There were 3 types of noodles to chose from, we chose thin egg noodles.

Service was meticulous.   The waitress served us a small cup of the soup before she placed the rest of the ingredients into the pot.
The soup was very thick and tasty and the chicken meat was very tender.

However, the soup left a sticky feel in and around our mouths.  A sip of water will do the trick but my hubby don't like this after feel lolxx....

Self-made spicy sauce for our egg noodles =P~~

We were told to leave the prawns to the last as after adding the prawns, the soup base would taste a little different.

Recommended by the waitress, we made a side order.
Nikumaki Chilli S$3.80

It's a ball of rice wrapped with bacon in spicy sauce, a bit pricey, but the taste did not disappoint.

The meal ended with 2 bites of jelly for us with a cute and warm food art.

It's a fascinating experience.   Very different from chinese steamboat or shabu shabu, from the soup base to the ingredients.  I had seen their outlets at Chinatown Point and Westgate but not sure if the dining slots and food quality are same.
