Vintage theme eatery - Sinpopo

I was in my best mood after a great foot massage at Foot Haven.

Hubby came to pick me up for dinner ^.^
I will be happy even with bread and water as long as he's by my side.  Mushy max I know, heehee.....
Okie....... back to reality, I want LOVE and BREAD GOOD FOOD!!!

Strolling down Joo Chiat Road, we chanced upon something *new* but old.
It was quite empty for dinner time.....

At the entrance was a vintage TV, used to see this type of TV in households when I was a primary school kid.

I hate stools without back rests, but still sat in for a quick bite.

Besides the vintage interior, the eatery played songs from 50s to 70s!
Hubby and me went super "high" lolxx...

Black plastic records and covers as wall decor.  Very young then, I would watch the black round disk went round and round on the player but never understood how sound came out from it.  These got phased out eventually and were replaced by tape recorders when I was in upper primary.

I felt like a small child all over again when I saw these switches.  My old house at Toa Payoh used to have these.....

I was enjoying too much with photo taking lolxx....

 Very simple and clear menu, not much to chose from though.  They serve local food which we are familiar with.

 Nasi Lemak S$8.90

Lo Gai Yik S$8.90
Lo Gai Yik is a cantonese translation meaning braised chicken wings.  But pork ribs were included too.

This was special as it was my first time trying out this dish.  Both the chicken wings and pork ribs were tender in soupy gravy.  The unique saltish taste of fermented bean was very distinctive.
 It's either you hate it or love it.

Ice Ball S$3.90

It's ice kachang in a ball instead of a mountain of shaved ice.

The colorful ball was topped with crushed peanuts which added taste and cuteness to the overall presentation.

Le hubby made a small opening, "exploring" the mysterious ingredients inside, which leaded to an "argument" between us later............

Me:  Oh!!  Inside got ingredients one arh?

Hubby:  Ya lah, if not just colored ice not worth the money.

Me:  What's inside huh?  (I did not wait for his answer and chopped open the ball with the metal spoon.)

Hubby:  AIYOOOOOOOO!!  (He sounded as if I just chopped him into half -____-)  Why you break the ball?!!!

Me:  If I don't break it, how to eat?!?

Hubby:  Eat slowly mah!  Now no more ball already.......... (He looked like a small boy whom's toy was broken or something LOLxxxx...).

Me:  Anyway, the ice ball will melt in a matter of time right? (I was trying to console him but I guess my tone wasn't kind enough >.<)

Hubby:  Aiyoooo....... (He looked so sad, but I just wanna laugh lolxx......)

How can he be so incredibly cute!!  The little boy in him never grows up after all these years I had been with him...... I am insanely in love with this childish charisma in him.

So, this was how the broken ball looked like.
Generous amount of soft sweet red beans flowing out like lava.  There were grass jelly (cin cao), pearl jelly and nata de coco too :P~~~ This dessert was more satisfying than the mains and became the star of the meal.

We had only tried 3 items, probably you may like to try out the rest!

The Seafood International Market & Restaurant

To celebrate their 30 years milestone, Seafood International has introduced a 30-Course Set Dinner  featuring 30 celebratory dishes with FREE FLOW wines, beers, desserts and more to mark the occasion for the period of 16 September to 31 October 2013.

Walked into Seafood International, the spacious market place with various tanks of live seafood was impressive!

They have fresh vegetables too!

The restaurant also boasts a wine cellar of more than 150 specially selected wines.

Buffet spread of fruits and dessert shooters.

A colorful spread of local and thai kueh.

All ready to feast!

The elaborate 30 course dinnner showcases Seafood International’s Thai Signatures, Singapore Classics, All-time Favourites, renowned homemade Thai desserts complemented with free flow wines (De Bortoli, Angove, Alta Vista, Santa Rita), Tiger Beer, juices and soft drinks.

Prepare to drool :P~~~~~


Thai Curry Crab
It's my first time eating crab with curry.  Being one of the signature dish, it did not disappoint.  The flavourful curry gravy was in thick consistency, perfect to dip with garlic bread.

Garlic bread is for curry crab and I suppose you know what goes with those golden little buns!
Yes! Chilli Crab!

Chilli Crab
I believe 99% of Singaporeans had tasted more than one version of chilli crab.  This version was slightly more spicy.

Chilli crab was heavenly with golden buns as well as steam buns!
These buns were fluffy soft I tell you..... omg.....

We were giving aprons so that we could be as messy as we like lolxx....

Tom Yum Broth
Bountiful of  fresh seafood swimming in tom yum soup.  The perfect balance of sourness and spicy-ness was addictive!

Stir Fried White Stone Clam Mirin
This dish was mildly sweet and with a refreshing taste.

Wok Fried Pacific Clam with Bell Pepper in XO Chilli Sauce
^.^  I love OX sauce, I love those QQ clam slices.  This was when good food can give happiness.

Steamed Live Sea Scallop with French Black Garlic Sauce

Following were other splendid dishes that we had tried:

Fresh Oyster with Green Chilli Marmalade.
You must not leave the restaurant without eating these ocean fresh oysters with this special dip sauce.  Would highly recommend this for oyster lovers.

Shooter of Mango with Crab Meat Salad
This appetizer was a feast to the eyes and tasted good too.

Deep Fried Marble Goby with Spring Onion Soya Sauce
Gave it a funny caption lolxx... this is my all time favourite dish and I have to say that being fresh made it perfect!  ps.  I ate the fish head :P~~~

Steam Seabass in Thai Style
Freshness of fish was delectable.  The spicy and sour thai sauce brought out the natural flavour of the fish without being overwhelming <3

Smiling Thai
Crispy fried yam in basket was delightful.  Mushrooms with kai lan completed the meal.

Crispy fried baby squids
This dish was a crowd pleaser!

Dessert Shooters, free flow!
These awesome shooters had won our hearts.   My favourite was the Red Ruby, I gobbled down 3 despite of my tummy threatening to burst.  The chestnut cubes coated within were so crunchy and sweet, freaking shiok to bite into.  

Tip to enjoy these shooters:  Use a small dessert spoon, make a turn to "loosen" the jelly, then pour it out right into your mouth to savour the sweetness, waahaaahaaa........

Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve

My Sungei Buloh trip hor, was blood donation drive to the mosquitoes, unfortunately.  Nevertheless, sharing here pics with green lush......

The weather was good with a bit of cool haze.

Lots of cyclists along the way.

Saw a scarecrow when we were about to reach!  How often do we see one in Singapore you know.

Reach at about 7.40am.

Visitor Centre with exhibits which we visited before we left.

We were so early that we need not pay $1 entrance fee.

Scrolling down the following loads of pictures, it will be as if you are wallking through Sungei Buloh with us ^^

Lots of silver-ish fish which I couldn't identify.

The weather was great without scotching sun early in the morning.

The trail began from here....

A romantic back view of our friends Jayce and Andrew.

Saw plenty of such trees with roots that branch out from trunks like stilts.  They are called Rhizophora Apiculata, what a complex name.

We did not see any crocodile.  We were discussing among ourselves how we should react if we happened to bump into one right in front of us lolxx...

We saw some photographers on this platform.

Every spot was a photo spot.

When they saw a bird......

排排站,拍拍看 all in same position without any rehearsal, laugh die me lolxx......
I stood behind them for a moment to peek at their camera's screen.  Blow me down, I could see the eye and beak of the bird although it was don't know how many hundred metres away from us sia!!

Big fat mudskipper.

Saw a mud nest which looked like a face mask, a bit scary >.<

These were the best my compact camera could get.

Some birds peaking on clams in the mud with clapping sounds.

Saw a tiny fluorescent green worm in the middle of no where.  Click in this clip but pardon my squeaky high-pitch >.<

We left it continue it's climb after that lolxx..

Aerie Tower which we climbed up.

A broken trunk which looked like a monster.

State of tranquil was disturbed by my hubby's exclaimed " CB leaves!!!"

We later saw more of such leaves across the little pond where a huge monitor lizard crawled into.
But it was too quick for our cameras -.-

The common name of CB leaf is Simpoh Air, also known as Dillenia suffruiticosa.

Unknown red flowers which had fallen, so beautiful..........

Just as we were feeling disappointed for not able to capture the monitor lizard into our cameras earlier on, we saw one crossing our path slowly.....

After which, it wasn't fun any more.  Swarms of mosquitoes were literally chasing after us.  We were fully "armed" with insect repellent, but totally useless.  These mosquitoes also have "sex preference", only Jayce and I were badly bitten.  Had to ask my hubby to beat them (and me at the same time).  Thankfully, Jayce had medicated oil with her which we poured generously onto our poor swollen and red skin to at least cease the itchiness.  The guys kept complaining that the oil stinks, but WE LOVE THE SMELL!!

Each slap could easily kill 2 or 3 blood suckers, this pic caught one dead bloody sucker.  My arm appeared reddish all around, cos' I had been beaten many times already T____T

There were lots of fish jumping in and out of the water.

Managed to catch them swimming in circles lolxx...

Sea Holly, looking very much like a Christmas Holly.  They pokes!

Didn't see any prawns though.

Another towel, but I was too upset by the mosquito bites to climb.

Towards the end of the trail, the sun began to shine more and more fiercely at around 10am.

This grasshopper was palm size BIG!

Pencil roots of Avicennia spp all over the soil.   Not sure what will happen if one falls onto them, oh gosh.....

Finally able to smile when we managed to shake off those mosquitoes.

Mudskipper, really cute.

Foot prints, which we guessed could belonged to a monitor lizard.

Back to the Visitor Centre.

By the time when we were leaving at about 10.30am, visitors started to walk in.  We were glad to be early birds as the trail was more enjoyable without the blazing sun.

Somebody enjoyed the sun though.
